The
Brisbane Folk Festival is Brisbane’s
newest and most exciting celebration of food, dance, music
and entertainment.
This years Festival promises to be bigger and better than
ever. We continue to have a wealth of talent that performs
all day long – bands, soloists, comedians, dancers,
musical workshops, stalls, pipers and children’s activities.
This year we will be having an entrance fee of 15 dollars
for adults (children free) so that we can cover costs. This
is an extremely reasonable price considering that you will
have non -stop entertainment from 10.00am in the morning til
the early hours next day.
What we would ask and encourage you to do is to book off
that date so that you can come along and enjoy the day, we
would also love it if you could actively encourage all your
friends to come along as well – get a party together
– organize a team – make sure they all come along
so that they can revel in a day of cultural folk fun and entertainment.
Come along Saturday the 2nd December 2006.

“THEY WERE DANCING IN THE RAIN”
The Brisbane folk festival was held on July 12 2003
The skies were threatening but it did not deter the
volunteers who were at the Lord Stanley hotel early to set
up the stages ,events and marquis
The festival comprised two stages going all day and
night with 20 of qld’s best celtic/folk acts
The performers were magnificent – it was a complete
showcase of musical entertainment
Instruments included mandolins,bouzoukis, fiddles,
guitars, banjos, pipes from many nations including Ireland’s
uillian pipes and magnificent vocals.
The bodhran (a drum made from the skin of goats or
cows) extravaganza attracted 26 exponents of the instrument
. The accompaniment was provided by Irish piper Adrian Jeffries.
The beautiful colours of the irish dancing girls dresses
provided swirls of entertainment in between breaks
Children’s activities ensured the kids were occupied
– face paint, throw the ball, 10 pin bowling, l.j.hooker
bear, puppet shows
Comperes included radio celebrities Ian Eckersley,
Brian Hinselwood –radio station personalities.
People travelled from townsville, cairns and canberra
to attend the event
Brisbane folk festival organisers Roc Canning, Nick
McEleavey and Teddy Rooney were delighted with the huge
attendance, the quality of entertainment (headlined by Hot
Toddy) and the determination of the volunteers who provided
friendly and welcoming assistance to festival goers
The rain only came down for a short time but this did
not stop the people dancing – a great time was had
by all.
